Ongoing conflict in Ukraine
Ukraine has used Western technology and finances to carry out long-range strikes within Russia, with the help of drones produced in Ukraine and software developed by a major data analytics company.
These drones, made of wood and assembled in former furniture factories, are used to target Russian air bases using commercial satellite imagery and signals from intelligence services to identify key locations.
However, due to strong anti-aircraft defenses, most drones are shot down, with less than 10% reaching their target.
Despite this, targeting Russian air bases has been identified as the most effective way for Ukraine to respond to Russian glide bombs.
Ukraine is seeking Western-made long-range weaponry to further enhance its capabilities, but for now, allies are hesitant to provide such assistance.
The ongoing conflict highlights the impact of technology and international support on modern warfare tactics and the complex dynamics of the Ukraine-Russia relationship.
