Timoty Mellon’s Donation to Pro-Trump Group
Timothy Mellon, a reclusive American billionaire, made a significant donation of 50 million dollars to a group supporting Trump immediately after Trump’s impeachment, which represents one of the largest individual contributions in American electoral history. The Super-PAC Make America Great Again Inc. plans to invest 100 million dollars in campaign ads for Trump by Labor Day, September 2, with 30 million dollars allocated for television ads in Georgia and Pennsylvania around Independence Day. Mellon’s inherited wealth dates back to the Gilded Age, the period following the American Civil War known for the rise of the American economy. He supports Trump but is also a major donor to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign. In total, Mellon has donated 100 million dollars in these presidential elections.
Financial Support for Trump and Biden Campaigns
In April, Trump supporters began to outpace Biden’s fundraising efforts, but Biden still holds a financial advantage with 84 million dollars compared to Trump’s 49 million dollars. Mike Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City and Democratic presidential candidate from 2020, recently donated nearly 20 million dollars to Biden’s campaign after spending a substantial amount of money on his unsuccessful bid and subsequent support for Biden’s victory. Biden’s financial advantage and significant donor support like Bloomberg emphasize the importance of fundraising in the upcoming elections.
