Former TV expert at Borussia Dortmund, Matthias Sammer, reportedly received a warning from the club’s sports management not to continue as an expert during BVB games. It was reported that Sammer was given the choice to either stop working as an expert at Amazon or dissolve his contract as a BVB advisor. This happened after Sammer criticized the team harshly following a Champions League defeat and poor form.

After the defeat, the club parted ways with coach Nuri Şahin, who was replaced by U19 coach Mike Tullberg. However, the first game under a new coach did not bring positive results as it ended in a draw.
