Stuntwomen in Hollywood Speak Out Against Gender Imbalance
Founder of the “Association of Women Drivers,” Olivia Summers, recounts the discrimination she faced when a producer dismissed the idea of hiring a female driver for a commercial shoot. Despite regulations from the Screen Actors Guild requiring female roles to be filled by stuntwomen, the industry still predominantly employs male stunt drivers.
Wakisha Malone and Ashlei Tave, both stunt drivers, highlight the challenges women face in a male-dominated industry and stress the importance of representation and diversity in casting decisions.
Pushing for Change
The group of stuntwomen is pushing for more opportunities and recognition within the industry, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities for all stunt performers. By forming a network and advocating for change, they hope to challenge the status quo and increase the visibility of women in action films. Ultimately, they aim to level the playing field and show that female stunt drivers are just as capable and skilled as their male counterparts.
