Jesse Alvarez, convicted of first-degree murder
Jesse Alvarez, convicted of first-degree murder, killed high school Catholic teacher Maria Fierro out of jealousy over his engagement to Alvarez’s ex-girlfriend. Alvarez devised a plan for the murder after learning about the engagement and searched Google on how to commit the crime. Fierro was shot six times, with prosecutors dismissing Alvarez’s claims of self-defense. Alvarez will be sentenced on May 10 and faces life imprisonment. His unhealthy obsession with his ex-girlfriend led to the tragic murder of an innocent person.
