Sir Paul Marshall acquires The Spectator for £100 million
Sir Paul Marshall, hedge fund tycoon and investor in GB News, has purchased The Spectator for £100 million, outbidding the Gulf-backed Redbird IMI consortium.
The magazine, founded in 1828, is one of the oldest publications covering politics and current affairs globally.
New owner and editor remain optimistic
Marshall, who co-founded a hedge fund in 1997 with Ian Wace and received funding from George Soros, is the new owner of The Spectator.
The current editor, Fraser Nelson, is optimistic about the change in ownership. This acquisition represents a significant milestone for The Spectator, marking a new chapter in its long history and highlighting its enduring relevance and appeal in the rapidly changing media landscape.
